Attacker: Hoshi (Craftworld Eldar)
Defender: Harmen (Nurgle Plaguefleet)
Mission Type: The Raiders (1200 points) with Subplots: Fresh Captain for Harmen, Desperate Mission for Hoshi
Battle Description:
It was the perfect site for an ambush. A Chaos cruiser fleet stuck in travel formation amidst a dense asteroid cluster. Despite being heavily outnumbered, the small Eldar raiding force composed of two Wraitships and a squadron of Shadowhunters charged in from behind to pick off the stragglers. The first salvo at the rearmost ship was devastating but not quite enough, as it just barely managed to fade away between the asteroid fields before the killing blow could be struck. The Shadowhunters took some casualties from long-ranged return fire by the Chaos fleet's lead elements, but they always do. Don't tell the plebs, but nobody on the Craftworld even cares about Shadowhunter losses. The Bonesingers crank those things out by the dozen anyhow.
Things were starting to look close when the two Wraithships finally managed to corner another light Chaos cruiser against an asteroid field at point blank range. Their Pulsars' capacitors were fully charged, their torpedo tubes freshly loaded, the fury of the very stars themselves stood ready to be unleashed. They let loose with everything they had... and did absolutely bugger all. The Chaos cruiser just sauntered on past while its captain made rude gestures from the bridge. With the rest of the Chaos fleet starting to come around and into range, the Eldar quickly disengaged before they started to suffer actual losses. At least the shipment of Exodite pastries hidden aboard the Jade Scythe made it through the fighting unharmed, which will be sure to grant us the Craftworld's favour.
Outcome: Chaos wins
Chaos
One light cruiser crippled
Expert Gunners and Disciplined Crew gained on some ships whose names were promptly edited in: Forlorn and Haggard
+3 Renown
Eldar
Striking Falcons squadron crippled
Reaper's Chariot +1 LD
+4 Renown (yay subplots!)
